Prof. Huo Fengwei was awarded the 2016 “The National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars”

Recently, the National Natural Science Foundation of China announced “the 2016 National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars” project funding review results. The “Coordination Polymer” project applied by Professor Huo Fengwei from the Buffer Base for Overseas Talents (Institute of Advanced Materials, IAM) of Nanjing Tech University was awarded.

Professor Huo Fengwei is the first “Young Thousand” introduced by our Buffer Base for Overseas Talents (Institute of Advanced Materials, IAM), he obtained a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from Jilin University, under the supervision of Professor Zhang Xi and Professor Wang Zhiqiang. After studying in Northwestern University in the United States, under the guidance of the famous scientist Dr. Chad Mirkin he received a doctorate in polymer pen printing and DNA bio-nano research; in the year of 2010, he was employed as an assistant professor in Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and engaged in porous coordination polymer composite materials research; in 2014 he full time joined the Institute of Advanced Materials (IAM), Nanjing Tech University as a Professor, doctoral tutor. Since returning to China, Professor Huo Fengwei has received a number of national, provincial and ministerial-level talents and scientific research project supports, including the “Youth Thousand Talents Program”, “Jiangsu Distinguished Professor”, “Outstanding Youth Fund of Jiangsu Province”, “Jiangsu Shuangchuang Talent”, Jiangsu Provincial “six talent peak”, Qinglan engineering innovation team, and the National Natural Science Foundation of China funded projects.
Professor Huo Fengwei’s group mainly engaged in porous coordination polymer composites, selective catalysis, energy storage, flexible electronic devices and other aspects of research, in functionalized PCPs composites, NPs / PCPs catalytic system and functionalization of PCPs film and so on, has achieved outstanding innovative research results. Prof. Huo Fengwei as first author or corresponding author has published about 100 research papers in internationally famous journals such as Science, Nature Nanotechnology, Nature Chemistry, Advanced Materials, Angewandte Chemie International Edition, etc. And he was invited to do more than 30 reports in international and domestic conferences. He was the chairman of The 7th International Advanced Materials Science and Technology Conference (ICMAT) held in Singapore in 2013 and the 29th Academic Annual Conference of Chinese Chemical Society in Beijing in 2014. In 2015, he helped organize the 4th Golden Forum on Chemistry and Materials, the 9th National Academic Conference on Organic Molecules and Polymer Luminescence and the 1st Organic Electronics Conference in Nanjing.
The National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars is the first national-level special talent fund established by China for outstanding young science and technology workers to promote the growth of young science and technology talents and accelerate the cultivation of a batch of outstanding academic leaders who have access to the world’s scientific and technological frontiers. The fund projects adhere to high standards and strict requirements, rigorous review procedures, annual funding plan of about 200 people, has now become the scientific evaluation of universities and scientific research institutes, an important indicator of competitiveness. It is learned that a total of 2,433 people applied for the project in 2016. There were 198 outstanding young scholars who were awarded for funding. The support rate was only 8.13%.
